Amoxil – The Healer of Actinomycosis
Actinomycosis is a bacterial disease characterized by a collection of puss in the mouth, respiratory organs such as lungs and gastrointestinal tract. It causes Osteo-myelitis of the bones of the head, particularly the mandible and maxilla. The said disease rarely occurs in humans but mostly in cattle. Horses, dogs and swine are other animals that are also susceptible to this disease.
The developed abscesses, grows with the growth of the disease, lasting for months. In critical cases, the abscesses penetrate the outer parts of the bone and muscles. The disease has no fixed incubation period but may vary from 7 days to a few months. The incubation period depends upon the level of infection developed in the body. The foreign agents causing the disease are the Actinomyces species. These agents are microscopic organisms that can live and grow in an anaerobic condition. Humans rarely develop this disease due to poor oral hygiene, radiation therapy, etc. In some cases, removal of the appendix causes abdominal actinomycosis. The three usual places of infection are teeth, upper parts of the chest and intestines.
The perfect drug to heal actinomycosis is Amoxil and the generic name of the drug is amoxicillin. Amoxicillin is a penicillin drug. This antibiotic prevents the microorganisms from multiplying rather than killing them. The microorganisms form walls around them for self-protection. Amoxil prevents the formation of such walls and hence the organisms fail to multiply. These organisms cannot survive in the absence of the cell wall and Amoxil takes advantage of this weakness by preventing the bacteria from multiplying. The drug comes in different preparations. Capsules of 200 and 500 mg. Tablets of 500 and 875 mg. Chewable tablets of 125, 200, 250 and 400 mg. Powder of 50 mg/ml; 125, 200, 250 and 400 mg/5ml. The above-mentioned units may vary and completely depends upon availability. Powder and capsules can be preserved at 20 degree centigrade.
